Kisii County Assembly has been challenged to allocate more funds to the Department of Agriculture for it to perform its functions efficiently.
Executive Committee Member Vincent Sagwe has pleaded with the County Assembly Members to allocate adequate funds to the department based on its role in turning around the county's economy.
Appearing before the Kisii County Assembly joint Committee on the Implementation and Public Accounts Committee during the committee's 2014/15 financial year budget review for the Kisii Government Executive arm, Sagwe lamented that his department was not able to deliver on its mandate due inadequate funds by the County Assembly.
"Iam pleading with you honourable members to give the Department of Agriculture enough funds to discharge its functions efficiently since agriculture is the backbone of the county's economy and if it fails to operate efficiently, it will get stuck economically," stated Sagwe.
He took issue with the County Assembly for slashing the department's budget estimates during the approval of the budget saying the move affected operations.
