Speaking on Friday, the former soccer player promised to better the state of trade and infrastructure in the constituency, adding that he will also pay special attention to security.

In his 14-point manifesto, he vowed to rehabilitate markets, in collaboration with the county government, and create an open-air tailoring centre in the constituency.

"The idea will be to create the first and largest open-air tailoring centre in the region that employs Kibra residents and target the new government policy for African attire for civil servants and also tender to stick uniforms for all Nairobi county staff," he said.

He spoke after going on a shopping spree at Othaya Market within the constituency.

Mariga promised streetlights in each ward to extend the time for business, further promising to offer free business lessons, which he said will equip interested locals with business skills.

The former Parma midfielder added that he will use his powers as MP to push to have Kibra listed as a marginalised constituency, hoping that this way the region will get more funds.

"I will set up a one-stop centre for Kibra residents to get free business lessons, access the internet to encourage e-commerce and printers to assist parents who cannot afford the infrastructure required by the new school curriculum," he added.

Mariga also said that he will rehabilitate bridges connecting the different villages of the constituency after an audit, and secure an affordable housing programme for the sake of the constituents if elected.
