His 200 possessions including a knife will be auctioned in October with the express purpose of raising money for the family that he left behind and a culinary institute in the US.

The knife is said to be worth upwards of 6000 US dollars, an equivalent of at least Sh600, 000.

60% of the proceeds will go to his separated wife and daughter wife Ottavia Busia and daughter Ariane respectively.

The remaining 40% will be pumped into supporting students taking culinary and global cultures courses at the Anthony Bourdain Legacy Scholarship at the Culinary Institute of America.

Anthony Bourdain was best known for his 'Parts Unknown' programme that saw him travel across the world showcasing culinary delights and cultures.

He died in 2018 while filming his programme in France.

Former United States President Barack Obama was among his high profile fans.

The two shared a meal and drinks in one of the episodes of 'Parts Unkown' in Thailand as they leisurely talked about the world's culinary delights.

Perhaps his most important work was his seminal book 'Kitchen Confidential' that revealed in chilling detail what happens in kitchens, a book that catapulted him to global fame.

"Most of us who live and operate in the culinary underworld are in some fundamental way dysfunctional, " he wrote.

The auction of his personal belongings will be held online.
