Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has lashed out at Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru for claiming no presidential candidate could succeed without Raila Odinga's support.
Speaking in Nandi over the weekend, the outspoken senator rubbished Waiguru's contention.
"I want to tell our sister Anne Waiguru to stop the politics of tea and mandazi (So nataka niambie dada yetu Waiguru awache siasa ya chai na mandazi)," the Nandi legislator said.
Senator Cherargei expressed confidence that Deputy President Dr William Ruto would win the 2022 presidential contest.
He said that the DP only needed God and the Kenyan voters to win and not Raila's support.
The senator went on to say that President Uhuru Kenya had won two presidential elections in a bid to poke holes into Waiguru's contention.
His words come amid disgruntlement among a section of Ruto's supporters that Central Kenya might not support DP Ruto's 2022 bid.
Waiguru said last week that Central Kenya was ready for Raila Odinga, a contention that has not sat well with Ruto's supporters.
There had been an expectation in the deputy president's camp that central Kenya would really behind his presidential aspirations.
President Uhuru had pledged to support Ruto in the build-up to the 2017 election but has remained silent on his support for the DP much to the discomfort of Ruto's supporters.
