Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir has said he is not interested in contesting for any other political seat other than MP during the next election.
Shabbir’s has been touted for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat come 2017, but has since maintained that he is satisfied with the parliamentary seat he currently holds. He has been MP since 2007.
While speaking to this writer, Shabbir said Kisumu leaders should stop being pre-occupied with 2017 elections but instead serve their constituents.
“I am satisfied with the seat I have now, until my people want me to go for a higher seat,” he said.
So far Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has declared interest in the gubernatorial seat, challenging the incumbent Jack Ranguma, while Nyando legislator Fred Outa wants to go for the Senatorial seat having served Nyando residents for two terms.
The county women representative who was said to be going for Outa’s seat is yet to declare her stand while Kisumu West’s Olago Aluoch is to defend his seat come 2017.
Shabbir stated that some elected leaders have already come up with their line ups months before the polls.
“I will serve my people as I study things unfold,” said Shabbir.
