Waititu says he was invited for the lunch, but turned down the offer because he does not trust Cord leader Raila Odinga and his opposition colleagues.

"I do not trust them at all, I feared we would have our lunch then they change tune while addressing the press," the controversial MP told Inooro TV Wednesday night.

Waititu accused some Cord leaders of grabbing pieces of land in Embakasi, Nairobi County, as one of the reasons he could not trust them.

"I know Raila and Kalonzo very well because since the days I was the Nairobi deputy mayor, they are not trustworthy," he said.

Legislators who attended the lunch organised by opposition chief Odinga were; Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama, Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Junet Mohammed (Suna East).

Woman Representatives Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi) and Florence Mutua (Busia) were also present.

The eight MPs were detained for four days at Pangani and Muthaiga Police stations over hate speech.

They were later released on bond.
