The incident is said to have happened on July 31.

The police have now launched an investigation into the matter to ascertain the truth.

In a report by the police, Waibara indicated that he was assaulted in the presence of his wife, Winnie Wairimu Mburu with other two people in the car while they were driving towards Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi.

When they reached at T-Mall at around 7:30 pm, the former MP is said to have alighted the car to ask the traffic police officer the shortest route to KNH.

It is at this time that the traffic police officer manning the roundabout at T-Mall instead slapped the former legislator.

“Instead the traffic officer manning the roundabout started violently pushing and slapped him (Mr Waibara) twice on the face injuring his left eye and cheek,” reads part of the police report as quoted by Citizen Digital

The former legislator was rescued by another traffic police officer who was at the scene.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment where his doctor advised him to go to the police to report the matter.

It is not yet revealed what transpired before the traffic police officer decided to assault the former MP.
