Nakuru County residents have been told to develop a habit of encouraging senior citizens and appreciating them from time to time.
By doing this, you will get blessings and keep the county safe from adversaries of nature, said woman representative Mary Mbugua.
Mbugua said that many people tend to forget senior citizens in the society and let them suffer from loneliness and desertion.
“When you grow old, your children will not be with you and this feeling of loneliness starts to creep in and that is when you realise you need to be with somebody you can talk to,” said Mbugua in Kuresoi on Thursday.
The MP lauded the national government cash transfer programme for the elderly, a scheme that gives Sh2,000 to elderly aged over 65 years.
She said the funds have helped many old people who do not have any other source of income.
Further, she urged them to help mentor young people saying some have gone astray due to lack of guidance.
