Over 140 homesteads from Gitera village in Molo sub-county have benefitted with power connectivity through Rural Electrification Programme, which is currently in its last phase.
Molo MP Jacob Macharia on Thursday said that the programme has so far been a success to residents of Turi division.
“The rural village of Giteru with over 140 homesteads in Turi division has gone live with electricity as well as the Green Park primary school. This is part of the ongoing rural electrification campaign in Molo constituency with an aim of reaching 95 % connectivity to the national grid,” he said.
He said that economic activities within the area will increase with availability of power.
“I anticipate that there will be more economic undertakings in this area since there is power and there is so much we can do with power to better our lives and also grow our county,” he went on.
Morris Waiganjo is a resident from Gitera and is among those whose house was connected to the national grid.
He said that it is cheap as he will not have to buy kerosene everyday to light up his kerosene lamp that he has used for the last 43 years.
“I am glad that we have electricity here and my children are enjoying the new look because they have been so much used to darkness but this project is a success for us,” he said.
Naomi Mbugua, another resident, said she will open a salon at the local shopping centre now that there is power and start a business.
