The traders at Kenyatta market which is a few miles from Kibera slum, said that the Nairobi County government has done nothing to benefits the residents and traders as they had promised from before getting elected.

One of the traders, Samuel Maene said the county government has failed to fulfil the promises in time because of graft leaders stealing public money that could be used to upgrade markets and build good schools.

“We are suffering as traders in the market, wastes everywhere with bad smells all over. No one is ready to help clean the market. Leaders promised to upgrade the market put on enough lights in the market but to this date, there is very little done,” said Maene.

He further went on and explained that the Nairobi governor, Evans Kidero rarely visits the Kibera slum yet he promised to change the living standards of the people there.

‘‘Traders voted for him but all he can afford is to engage in corruption. In 2017, we are going to show all leaders elected in 2013 the door out of parliament and senate,” he added.

Another trader, James Muriuki said that the government is always advertising through the media gloating about its developments but there is nothing to show,’’ he stated.

“The leaders promised to improve the market but till now nothing has been done. We traders are suffering and the leaders we elected are busy stalling public funds. It a shame but come 2017 able leaders will be elected not leaders with false promises who will not help us traders sell at a clean and upgraded market,” said Everline Musyoka, another trader.
