Food vendors in Nakuru now want the county government to arrest and prosecute people who sell food in offices.

The vendors claim they were the only ones who felt the brutality of the council askaris who recently raided their food stalls accusing them of cooking under unhygienic conditions.

“Who knows where the people who distribute food in offices cook from? Unfortunately we are major targets because we sell ours in the open. The government should track them and see if they cook under the right conditions,” said Grace Mwangi, a food vendor.

Ms Mwangi pointed out that her kiosk had been raided by the public health officials and forced to shut.

Alice Mwihaki said they had often been subject to torture yet the others walked scott free.

“We wonder if they even have the public health certificates that are issued to every cook. The fact that they cook food to over 100 people should be looked into seriously,” she added.

Linda Mwaura said they had often been accused of spreading cholera and yet the office vendors could have been the cause.

They were speaking to the press on Thursday in Nakuru town.
