Doris Wako and Bernard Levy Mwato tied the knot at Our Lady of Grace and Compassion Primary School in Mundika, Busia on August 17, but the joy would only last for 19 days.

Wako, a police officer stationed in Busia says that her husband, 40, collapsed and died when he visited his uncle in Funyula to collect a wedding gift on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old is now heart-broken and so are the people who attended the wedding, most of whom can't come to terms with the sudden death.

“Rest in peace my love, till we meet again,” she said on Thursday.

Wako, a celebrated person in the county was in March this year honoured by Ida Odinga and area Governor Sospeter Ojaamong for her efforts towards bettering the community.

This was in line with her efforts to helping street families.

A postmortem has since been scheduled in a bid to establish the course of the death of the man who was pronounced dead upon arrival in hospital.
