The video was taken by an overhead drone and shows the United States of America troops making for the compound that was suspected to house al-Baghdadi.

The dramatic footage also shows the helicopters that were used in the dangerous night-time raid coming under small fire from ISIS militants standing guard at the compound.

Speaking at the Pentagon headquarters as the video was made public, the commander of US Central Command, Gen Frank McKenzie told reporters that he could not confirm whether the ISIS leader had run into a dead-end tunnel screaming as had been narrated by President Donald Trump.

McKenzie, however, said that al-Baghdadi "crawled into a hole with two small children and blew himself up while his people stayed on the ground. So you can deduce what type of person that is based on that activity".

He confirmed that Kurdish forces provided the US with crucial intelligence that helped in locating the ISIS leader and tracking his movements between Iraq and Syria.

McKenzie said that the US would not be complacent after the death of al-Baghdadi, warning that the Islamic State might try to stage retaliatory attacks.

"They will be dangerous. We suspect they will try some form of retribution attack,” he said.

“We don’t see a bloodless future because unfortunately, this ideology is going to be out there," he added.
