A lorry and a saloon car were on Tuesday involved in a fatal crash along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway at Emali, Makueni.

The accident claimed the lives of two children aged nine and 11.  The incident also left five travellers with injuries.  

The deceased is reportedly said to have boarded the saloon car shortly before the accident occured. 

Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Napeiyan has confirmed the deaths of the two. He said that police officers have embarked on a probe into the accident.  

The driver of the Saloon was reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle before he crashed into the truck.

”The driver of the saloon car pulled off from his proper lane and moved to the other lane and had a head-on collision with the truck that was heading to the opposite direction,” Napeiyan said.

Naipeyan added that two children died on the spot following the fatal crash. Good Samaritans rushed the passengers who sustained injuries to the Kilome Nursing Home  where they are currently undergoing treatment. 

The wreckage of the vehicles was towed to Emali Police Station. 

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Kilome Nursing Home mortuary while they await burial.
