County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua says the overdraft policy on the management of the lake was fully prepared and also adopted by the relevant key players who are all professionals.

"The Lake plays a very vital role in the county's economy and is also the lifeline of Naivasha's economy. Therefore there is great need to ensure that it is protected at all costs," Mbugua said.

Speaking at Naivasha on Saturday, the governor said that the policy formulation was started about two years ago.

"We all know that human wildlife conflict and also the rapid development around Lake Naivasha poses a very big risk to the ecosystem," Mbugua said.

He added that pollution and encroachment on the riparian land are some of the big challenges that are facing Lake Naivasha.

"It is upon us all, especially those living around the lake, to ensure that they protect it at all costs and report any kind of activities which pollute the lake to the relevant authorities," Mbugua said.
