Machakos governor Alfred Mutua opened the event which was sponsored by UNESCO in collaboration with Machakos county government. This year's event was themed," Promoting intercultural dialogue and culture of peace for sustainable development."

Many colleges, groups and individuals presented under different categories of spoken word, narratives, folk songs, sculpture, painting, fashion, cultural dance, traditional herbs, oral chants etc.

Selected winners will get the opportunity to travel to Paris to represent the country during the international celebrations. I caught up with the winner T.J Oundo in the category of spoken word and he could not hide his joy.

"I am so happy to win an award in this category. I was representing Machakos county and I can not wait to travel to Paris," he said.

Date of travel will be announced later.
