Gakoe police station officers have invaded a resident homestead and arrested 3 people over the manufacture of illegal brews. The 3, a father, older son and a neighboring middle aged man were all arrested at Gitandia village within Gakoe Township after the public leaked to the police information with regards to the manufacture of illegal brews at the homestead.

Speaking at Gakoe police station on Thursday afternoon, James Gitaka, the station corporal said that the 3, Maina Mugechi the father, Duncan Kigo Mugechi the older son and Eustas Kariuki a neighbour were arrested after a God fearing woman from the area reported to the police that there were men who were on an illegal drinking spree at the homestead.

"We managed to arrest 3 men out of 8 after a tip off from Magdalene Njeri, a resident who reported the manufacture merely an hour after they started the cooking. We have been able to pour 1, 800 litres of the chang'aa that they were preparing and a methanol chemical that we forced the owner of the house to bring out," he explained.

Gitaka noted that the wife to the owner of the house plus the junior children had gone to their aunts place an action that triggered Mugechi to invite fellow alcoholics for a holiday drinking spree.

He explained that the 3 could not have been able to evade the arrest as they were deeply drunk but that 5 other men escaped the arrest. Gitaka noted that they had received an order from the sub county commissioner to keep watch of alcoholics in an effort to fully tame outlawed drinks in the area.

The 3 will remain at the station cells before being arraigned in court on Monday next week.
