Confirming the incident, Karanja Muiruri, the senior officer at the Tala AP camp stated that the officers were in a routine patrol that was launched recently to wipe out thieves and provide security for the residents.

“We have two men and one woman in our custody who we arrested roasting a goat in a forest. They broke the rules that we have put in place with the residents of Matungulu and Tala of not staying out late,” said Muiruri.

He added, “We also found pangas, knives, goat skin and the intestines of the goat which is an indication they had just slaughtered the goat minutes ago.”

The senior officer also confirmed one of the arrested was a notorious cattle thief who had been reported by residents severally and the police had been looking for him.

“One of the three culprits in custody is a notorious thief whom residents have been complaining about. He is popularly known as Joniko and is from Kutina village,” he said.

Muiruri further explained that there has been rising cases of livestock theft in the area and he would ensure that the culprits are brought to book. He therefore warned the rest of the thieves that the hand of the law would soon catch up with them.

“I send a word of caution to the other counterparts who have been terrorising people in this area that we will not stop on the search,” said Muiruri.

Muiruri called upon the residents to report any case of stolen goat to the police station. The three are in police custody.
