President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked three Cabinet Secretaries not to resign from the government to run for elective seats.
Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, his Water counterpart Eugene Wamalwa and Joseph Nkaissery, the Interior and Coordination CS are the three that the president wants to shelve their 2017 political ambitions according to the Standard.
Uhuru has asked the trio not to vie for political seats and instead concentrate on their executive positions and help the Jubilee administration in service delivery.
According to the paper, the President held a meeting with the ministers two weeks ago and urged them to remain in government. It is also reported that Uhuru told them that he would not support any of them if they decided to run for political seats in the forthcoming election.
On Monday during a rally in Laikipia County, President Kenyatta told CS Kiunjuri not to leave the government for an elective seat.
“Please allow me to have Kiunjuri in my government for the next five years because he is among my strong political protectors while crisscrossing the country. I will release him in 2022,” said Uhuru.
The CS had tipped at quitting government to vie for Laikipia gubernatorial seat. Water CS Eugene Wamalwa is said to be torn on whether to run for governor in Nairobi or in Trans Nzoia.
