The traders who were identified as Stephen Kimani, Rhoda Mungai and Joseph Muchemi denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani.

According to the prosecution, the four were arrested at Cool Wines and Spirits in Pipeline area of Nairobi where police officers recovered counterfeit alcohol.

State Counsel Daniel Karuri opposed bail application by the suspects stating that forgery was a serious offence and if the suspects were released they could cause more harm to the public.

"The public order will be disturbed and undermined if the accused are released on bail, in light of the first charge we are looking at 5.4 million KRA fake stamps which would have found their way into the market," he said.

He added that if set free, the accused persons might abscond court sessions in case the case goes into full trial.
