A three days old baby died in Miruka area within Nyamira County after she was neglected by her mother who is an alcohol addict.
According to residents, the mother identified as Kwamboka refused to breastfeed the minor after she gave birth 3 days ago.
“Kwamboka is an alcohol addict. She gave birth to the child and left her in the house and went to drink chang’aa at her neighbors homestead.
"It is sad that the minor died of hunger, coldness,” said Mary Onduko, a resident.
Nyamira County Commissioner, who confirmed the Wednesday incident, said parents who fail to take care of their children after birth shall be arrested and prosecuted of child negligence.
“Parents should take up their parental responsibilities serious. Child negligence is illegal and punishable by the laws of the land," said Isaiah Naikoru.
He assured that the mother to the deceased will be taken to a rehabilitation center so that she can reform.
