Kiambu County commissioner Esther Maina has announced that punitive action will be taken against any officer found to have slept on the job leading to the death of three people.
The three, a husband and wife and another man, allegedly died after consuming illicit brew early today. The three succumbed after consuming the brew yesterday evening in Nginduri Kiambu County.
The couple is said to have been chang'aa brewers.
According to Kiambu District Hospital acting Superintendent Grace Achieng, the facility received eight people yesterday evening with methanol poisoning.
"Yesterday between six and 8pm, eight people were brought here. We found out that they had methanol intoxication," Achieng said.
She added: "Three died this morning and one has eye problems. The other four are not in grave danger."
Achieng says that three more people were brought to the hospital today morning with the same symptoms of methanol intoxication.
"Three more were brought today but not in a very bad condition now," said Achieng.
