Three people died on Friday morning after an accident occurred along Mombasa-Nairobi highway near Kiboko market, Makindu sub-sounty.
The accident, which involved a trailer and a lorry, occurred when the trailer was overtaking and collided head on with the on-coming canter lorry. The drivers of the two vehicles and a passenger died on the spot while two touts were seriously injured.
Confirming the accident, Makindu OCPD Henrietta Wanyama said the early morning accident was due to careless driving.
“The accident involved a trailer which was heading to Mombasa and a lorry which was heading to Nairobi. The accident occurred when the trailer was overtaking and collided head on with the lorry. Three people including the two drivers died on the spot while two others were rushed to Makindu hospital” said Wanyama.
“I urge all the motorists to drive carefully and observe traffic rules especially during the night to avoid such accidents in the future. This will help in saving lives and ensuring that our road are save,” added Wanyama.
Police have launched investigations into the accident. The bodies of the victims were taken to Makindu hospital mortuary.
