Eyewitness Dennis Muigai Ngengi recounting the accident that led to the death of Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru on Tuesday. [Photo: Citizen Digital]After he witnessed two incidences of high profile deaths in a span of less than a month, Kenyans on social media went wild with crazy speculations over who Dennis Muigai Ngengi could actually be.The little known Ngengi was on time to give an eyewitness account in Nakuru, where a helicopter crashed into Lake Nakuru, and in Murang’a where Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru died.On Tuesday, he was interviewed live on Citizen TV as he narrated how he was being driven by a female police officer behind the governor’s vehicle.Ngengi's witness accounts at completely two different places are perhaps what raised more questions than answers plus the speculations that he could be a security officer going by his appearances. The man is, however, not the first of such eyewitnesses. Here are others that shot to the public limelight by their unique eyewitness accounts to the media.Bonoko: He shot to fame after his catchy eyewitness account, "..huyu si mwizi, anauzanga mutura pale Ngara..." Bonoko then a street urchin, was narrating how a 'mutura' vendor was apparently shot dead by the police and then a fake pistol (bonoko) was placed on him. Bonoko is now a popular presenter on Ghetto Radio.Jose the 'witnesser': He was a milk vendor in Githurai area where he used to give several eyewitness accounts of road accidents that had come to be synonymous with the completion of Thika Superhighway. The most popular one was 'ni kama ndrama...ni kama vindeo' which came to dominate Kenyans' conversations for some time. Josee has since then be featured in several Safaricom adverts where he is reportedly paid well. Finally, Jane Anyango Adika: She became a celebrity in April 2012 after the media widely reported her plight as a floods victim in the Kano region.
After floods wreaked havoc on her village, she cried out to the government for help as her property had been destroyed and she could not trace her children. Amused by how she pleaded for help from the government, Kenyans nicknamed her Mama Serikali.
She too has landed several high-paying Safaricom adverts alongside being appointed county flood preparedness ambassador by the Kisumu County government.
