Several candidates have expressed their interest in the Makueni Speaker seat after the last general election. Three officials from the incumbent governor Prof Kivutha Kibwana administration are among the candidates going for the post.

Makueni county Water executive Douglas Mbilu, Makueni subcounty civic coordinator John Sila and Mbooni subcounty administrator Willie Malile have exuded confidence that they will beat their opponents in the race for the speaker position when that time comes.

The outgoing speaker of Jubilee ally Stephen Ngelu has announced that he will be defending his post. Brian Mutie, Patrick Mutua, Juliana Kisimbii, James Mbaluka, Mary Muting’a and Stephen Masoo are also contesting for the position. Mutua, who spoke to the Star, said that he believes he is the right man to lead the house. He said that he will ensure pressing issues are addressed if given the post.

“I’m seeking this seat because I’m looking forward to bringing robust debates at the assembly. I have passion to provide the correct leadership and to make sure laws are passed on time so the people of Makueni get the services they need,” he said, as quoted by Star.

On his part, Silas said that he stands a better chance doing exemplary work because he once worked as a councilor. “I know the procedures of legislation and I understand very well the functions of both the assembly and the executive,” he said.
