The private meeting between NASA leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta has been dubbed one of the most secretly organized with very few members of their inner circles aware of the details.
It was a closely guarded secret that many believe not even the Deputy President was aware of.
While no one can authoritatively confirm or deny knowledge of the event leading to the joint press conference pundits and political commentators read a consistent pattern of moves that increasingly insinuate an isolated deputy president.
Before the truce between the two leaders, there were other earlier instances where the DP has been left out, with questions lingering on their relationship with President Kenyatta.
Even though the second in command has downplayed the issue and instead choosing to concentrate on the positives, it is evident that their relationship is not all rosy.
Recently, the president stood alone as he announced the names of new Cabinet Secretaries, a shift from the usual hand-in-hand relationship that the two exhibited during their first term in office.
The DP came out once again and downplayed the matter, insisting that their relationship was perfect and him not being present during the day did not mean a lot.
It has not been lost on many that last year, during the swearing in of President Kenyatta, DP Ruto’s perceived challenger for the top seat in 2022 Gideon Moi was given the honor to welcome dignitaries, with many pundits questions the move.
