A Member of Parliament from Nyanza region has warned National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga against swearing himself in.
Marwa Maisori, the legislator for Kuria East in Migori County, hailed Raila for cancelling the swearing-in that was to happen on December 12 but accused three opposition politicians of piling pressure on their leader to take an oath.
The Jubilee MP claimed governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama were the people behind renewed threats to take an oath.
"Raila should not go that direction even though he has demonstrated maturity after pressure from his advisers and supporters, but he is at it again through whims of the likes of Joho, Kingi and Muthama," said the lawmaker.
In an opinion piece published by The Standard on Wednesday, the MP said the trio fear that if Raila does not become 'president', their political careers would be in jeopardy.
He said the politicians' aim is to 'destroy' Raila's legacy which he has built for decades for selfish gains, urging him to drop the plans.
"These are the people who after 2022 could be thrown into the abyss of political oblivion and are clinging for political relevance at the expense of Odinga's legacy, ideals and in this case, even life," said the MP.
"If anything, they are using Raila who should let the matter rest because it is no longer interesting," he added.
Joho and Kingi are serving their second and last term as county bosses.
