3 saw millers in Machakos County have been permitted to clear 22 acres of Iveti hills forest.

Machakos County conservator James Chomba said the millers will cut the trees in readiness for replanting in November.

Chomba said 70,000 seedlings are ready for planting.

“The millers will cut down all the trees and cultivation to start to prepare land for planting trees in November this year,” he said.

2 of the millers Mutinda Mutisya and Jackson Kioko said the community living near the forest will get firewood.

The millers cautioned the community against opposing the exercise.

“The clearing exercise is part of the management of the forest. The local community should not oppose the exercise,” said Kioko.
