Some 30 street children who had escaped from the Eldoret Children Rescue Center have been brought back to the station.
According to Uasin Gishu Director of Children's Services Julius Yator, the street children are now at the rescue center facility.
“I want to confirm that due to concerted efforts between the children’s department, security personnel and the county government we managed to bring back 30 the street urchins who has escaped from the center. The operation will go on until all street urchins are removed from the CBD,” he said in Eldoret town, Saturday.
“Since the exercise started we have rescued over 200 children. Our aim is not to punish them but to put them in a conducive environment where they will get food, shelter clothing, and education,” he added.
He revealed they have started re-integration meant to unite the street children with their parents since most of them are familiar with where they came from.
“Some street children from Transnzoia, Bungoma Nakuru, and Nairobi counties have been reunited with their families. Those who will be unable to identify their parents we will accommodate them in our rescue center,” noted Yator.
He, however, congratulated the Uasin Gishu government for constructing two dormitories at the Eldoret children’s home saying this will help cater for the increasing number of children.
