The Rift Valley water Service Board (RVWSB) is sourcing for Sh30 Billion funding from the government and funding agencies towards setting up a 54 metre high dam at Itare, within the Mau Forest Complex, the CEO of the board Engineer Japhet Mutai has said.

The Itare Dam will see a complete Water Treatment plant capable of Producing 100,000 Cubic Meters or 100 Million Litres of water a day is expected to serve over 800,000 people in Nakuru and its environs, especially those to the West of Nakuru.

Seated on a 500 acre Land allocated by the government to the board, the dam is set to commence in the next three months once Financial arrangements in matters negotiation between the national treasury and the funding agencies is complete.

“We are expecting to have gotten the status of the negotiation between January and February since we have already done such negotiations in other projects in Iten and Narok,” said Mutai.

With climate change issues, Mutai said that much is being done to ensure the community and other stakeholders including the Mau Forest Conservation Agency are involved in Environment sustainability in the Mau Forest.

Regarding the Eldama Ravine Chemususu Dam, Baringo County, Mutai said the government allocated Sh400 Million to start the Water distribution network.

He also dismissed claims that the board was trying to divert the water to majorly Nakuru but instead said areas to benefit in Nakuru are lower part of Rongai sub county but majorly is set to serve residents of Baringo.
