Kiganjo residents have decried early morning power disconnections that have been going on since the beginning of this week.
The power interruptions, they say is as a result of an ongoing street lighting program in the area where flood lights erected in the area some few months ago are being connected to the grid.
The residents who mostly operate small businesses say that the cut-offs are having a negative impact on their business and asked the power company to consider reviewing the power interruption schedule.
"These power interruptions are not good doing us any good because our businesses are suffering and we are suffering in the process. Keeping us without power for a whole day in 3 days is not good and they need to do something about it," John Kiragu, barber at Kiganjo Kona One said on Wednesday.
Though, the residents welcome the street lighting project, they argue that power interruptions should be done in a manner that they do not also lose much in their respective electricity-driven businesses.
"We welcome the lighting project because now crime will go down in this area at night. However, we do not also want to go hungry because we cannot work for lack of power. They should cut it off for some few hours and reconnect it back to give us some time to work also," Elias Waweru who operates a welding business said.
However, a Kenya Power Engineer working at the site, Charles Mweteri, said that the interruption is not expected to go beyond Friday as much of the work will be done.
"Residents should bear with us as we are doing everything possible to ensure that the interruptions don't go beyond Friday. We regret all the inconveniences caused by our cut-offs but it is for their own good," Mweteri said on Wednesday.
