Every of the 60 Kiambu County Wards will have 50 ex-alcoholics leading the fight against the brews that have made a comeback after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered their destruction in 2015.

“We shall ensure that there is no chang’aa and those winesand spirits shops that are ruining our youth. Consequently, we will also raid and get rid of all illegal betting machines.

"We will then start a comprehensive programme to rehabilitate all reformed alcoholics who will later be recruited to spearhead the war on illicit liquor,” Governor Ferdinand Waititu said on Sunday at St. John’s ACK Happy Valley Church.

Waititu warned that once the Alcoholic Bill 2018 become operational in the next two weeks, his government will ruthlessly crush all the wines and spirits outlets to ensure alcoholism becomes a 'thing of the past' in the county.

Waititu also promised that by June this year, his government will have tarmacked all the major roads within the residential areas in Thika.
