[Photo|Facebook/Governor Waititu Babayao]Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has promised to revive a stalled irrigation water project initiated in Githobokoni Ward, Gatundu North sub-county eight years ago.The project was initiated by the defunct county council of Kiambu but stalled after the council failed to compensate those who gave land for the location of the project."My government shall revive the project where the water will be used for irrigation benefiting over 3000 families. We need to have food security in our county and irrigation is one of the ways through which we can achieve this," Waititu said on Wednesday. The county Agriculture CEC Jeremiah Mbugua who had accompanied him said that his department will ensure that the project is completed without delay so that the area residents can benefit."We are committed to having this abandoned project completed without further waste of time because the residents have waited for way too long. Food security in Kiambu county is one of our goals but it will be hard to achieve if such important projects are left this way," Mbugua said.Residents especially those on social media applauded the governor for promising to revive the project."My home ward! Glad to see Governor and CEC Mbugua on site to revive the project. Kazi chap chap," James Macharia wrote on Facebook. There are, however, those who denied knowledge on the existence of such a project."There is no such a project in Githobokoni.Get your facts right Governor," said Martin Rubiara.
