The Mombasa county government has set aside a total of Sh150 million meant for bursary which will benefit students living with disabilities from the county.

People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) representative Hudson Karume said the money will be disbursed in two phases adding that the money for the first phase has already been disbursed.

In the first phase, the county has disbursed Sh70 million which has been disbursed in ward level, county offices of the ministry of education and the governors’ office through county administrators.

Karume further said that the second phase of the disbursement of the bursary money will be before June.

“Our objective is to make education accessible and affordable to all needy students. The Sh150 million bursary funds will be disbursed to the needy students,” he said.

Speaking in his office, Karume said the biggest challenge is how to get the forms to reach the disabled and also creating awareness.

Karume, however, said that he is planning to meet some of the county leaders to discuss on how to disburse the money and getting the forms to the needy students.

“I’ve planned to meet some leaders and discuss how these forms will reach the disabled as I am also aware that there are some who cannot come to my office,” said Karume.
