Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked elected leaders in the county to focus on service delivery.

Speaking to residents on Tuesday in Kiambu Town, Wamatangi said Kiambu leaders need to provide residents with the services they require.

The senator asked politicians to put aside their political sideshows and interests, and focus on serving the people.

Wamatangi said service delivery should be the first priority for every elected leader.

“Kiambu leaders should put aside their political interests and serve the people that elected them to office,” said Wamatangi.

The senator took issue with some politicians who he said have abandoned their work as leaders and embarked on political campaigns for 2017.

He said it is too early for leaders to start political campaigns, adding that they should use the remaining time to fulfill the development pledges they made to the people.

“It is unfortunate that some leaders have embarked on early political campaigns and abandoned their duties as leaders,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wamatangi has urged the government to boost security across the county. The senator said he has received complaints over insecurity from a section of residents, especially in Kikuyu.

He said law enforcers have a responsibility to fight crime and guarantee security of all citizens especially this festive season.
