Controversial city blogger Robert Alai was freed on Tuesday on a cash bail of Sh300, 000 or Sh500, 000 bond after spending 13 days in police custody.

Appearing before magistrate Francis Andayi at the Milimani Law courts, Alai's team of lawyers led by senior counsel Paul Muite opined that the pictures he posted didn't amount to acts of terrorism thus denying the charges pressed against him.

He was released pending the hearing of his case on August 8, 2019. 

Alai was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on June 18 after he for posting pictures of slain police officers.

He appeared before High Court Judge Luka Kimaru who charged him with intent to help Somali-based militia group Al-Shabaab after circulating photos of slain police officers who were killed in a deadly IED attack in Wajir on June 16. 

While in custody, sources reveal that Alai was kept in seclusion away from co-accused Prison Warder Patrick Safari and Administration Police Wilfred Kipkemei Maiyo.
