Last week, Waiguru said the nation cannot stand another Kikuyu or Kalenjin presidency, apparently discouraging Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

Speaking on Saturday, the senator claimed Waiguru is on a mission to endear himself to opposition chief Raila Odinga, and President Uhuru Kenyatta, hoping to secure a seat in their coming joint government.

According to Mwaura, looking at how the two leaders have been conducting themselves lately, its clear that plans are in place between them to form a joint union that will form the next government, what he termed the "handshake government".

"Anne Waiguru is very strategic, she is seeking a space in the handshake government. It is coming, the die has been cast. (Anne Waiguru ni very strategic. Anatafuta nafasi kwa serikali ya handshake. Kunakuja serikali ya handshake, the die has been cast)," he said.

The lawmaker made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Saturday, also attended by former Makadara MP Benson Mutura and politician Brian Weke.

He termed this as the reason behind the growing closeness between the governor and forces allied to Raila, claiming that she is closer to some of them, more than members of her Jubilee party are close to each other.

"Nowadays its easy to see Waiguru with (Gladys) Wanga in Kisumu than seeing (Gladys) Shollei and (Gathoni) Wamuchomba together. (Siku hizi ni rahisi kuona Waiguru na Wanga Kisumu kuliko Shollei na Wamuchomba," he added.
