Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga has joined Kenyan football fans in celebrating Harambee Stars’ historic win against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.

Raila, who doubles up as African Union Special Envoy, said that the team deserves credit for keeping a spirited fight during the competition. 

The ODM leader also hailed the warrior-like spirit the players depicted when they came from behind twice to outclass Taifa Stars 3-2 in Cairo, Egypt. 

Kashiwa Reysol striker Michael Olunga scored a brace and Johanna Omollo scored the second goal. 

“What a splendid performance #HarambeeStars coupled with great composure coming from behind twice to deservedly win the game. Bravo! Kenyans are firmly rooting for you. All the best as you continue striving to qualify for the #AFCON2019 round of 16. Hongera,” tweeted Raila.

Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka also congratulated the team following the good performance. He said that the team had made the nation proud and he feels great being part of the winning side.

“Congratulations to Harambee Stars win against Tanzania in the # AFCON2019. Well done. We are all proud of you,” Kalonzo tweeted. 

Kenya’s hope of proceeding to the next round has risen as the team prepares to face Senegal. 

The team lost 2-0 to Algeria in its first match.
