Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim told journalists on Tuesday morning that they discovered the four pupils from Kyunguni Primary School in Kilome were not registered on Monday evening.

He stated that investigations into the incident have begun, and pointed an accusing finger at the school's headteacher for failing to ensure all the pupils had registered for the exam.

Maalim also faulted the student's parents for failing to confirm with the school's administration whether their children had registered for the exam.

"It was saddening for us to be told on Monday evening that the four pupils were not registered and this will need thorough investigations and legal action taken against those found culpable," said Maalim.

"They prepared for this exam for eight years only for them to miss out in the last minute. They were supposed to be told earlier instead of being notified a day to the exam," he added.

32,982 pupils in the county started their KCPE exams today (Tuesday) in the 961 centres spread across the region.
