Being a first born and tasked with the responsibility of setting a good family pace in education propelled Maxine Diana to her exemplary performance in the 2015 KCSE.

The former student of Kisumu Girls High School scored an A plain of 82 points to emerge the second best female student in the public schools in the county.

The 18 year old who dreams of becoming a cardiologist says every time she was faced with tough times, the parents would expect her to act in a manner which could show a good example to her two siblings.

“It is a big challenge to be a first born and you have to be good all round so as to help the parents in guiding the young siblings,” she said.

With parents all busy trying to find their daily bread, most of the work which include taking care of the young ones is left to her.

She however, had to balance the family responsibilities and her academic work in order to shine in the competitive examinations.

“My class had a lot of competition and it was not easy to tell who will lead. I settled for number two but I can say the results have pleased me. My next move is now to focus on my career,” she said, adding that her outgoing nature enabled her to make friends with many people and relate well with teachers who were her motivation during her time in school.

“I would wish to thank my parents, teachers, former classmates, friends and anybody who contributed to this result,” she added.
