An organisation has rolled out a plan that will see residents in Kisii get access to clean water.
Joy Kerubo Foundation will, beginning 2016, upgrade springs to ensure residents have access to clean water.
The Foundation's Chief Executive Officer Joy Kerubo said it will prioritise clean water supply in the county in 2016.
She said a population that has access to clean water is a healthy population.
The Foundation's Coordinator Kefa Osiri said the project which commenced in Kitutu Masaba would spread to other regions before the end of 2016.
“I am happy that as a Foundation, we have settled on the water projects and we will ensure all springs are well cemented to prevent them during dry spells. The project will also see trading centers and institutions served with pumped clean water. Hopefully we will spread the project to all constituencies by the end of 2016,” he said on Thursday.
He urged locals to take advantage of the projects and start greenhouse farming to improve their living standards and creating jobs through farming.
“We are aware that farming needs water and I want to urge you to take advantage of the projects and set greenhouses to boost productivity in the region. Well managed farming can help us create employment for our people,” he added.
He said the organising committee had identified regions that were in dire need of water and cautioned against politicising the issue.
