Speaking outside the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, Mudavadi said that Bob was a great man.

He praised him for transforming Safaricom into a global-spanning conglomeration after he took over from his predecessor Michael Joseph.

He noted that it was not easy for Bob to make it in the industry considering the relations that were in place.

“He has built Safaricom into a reputable company after his predecessor Michael Joseph. I remember it was not an easy task because at the beginning Kenya was dominated by the monopoly Telcom. During that time of liberalization was on its way I was the minister of Finance. It was hard to convince my colleagues in government to accept privatization in the communication

On Collymore's succession, Mudavadi said that a Kenyan has the capacity to lead the mobile service provider.

He noted that Kenyans have proven to perform in different sectors and Safaricom is no different. He challenged the board to consider hiring a Kenyan to replace Collymore as the company seeks to remain at the top of the game following his death.

"Bob was the CEO of the organization. But the truth of the matter is that most of the employees are Kenya," he posed.
