President Uhuru Kenyatta has claimed that he stopped watching news due to the negative stories that the media airs on a daily basis.
The President further hit out at international media houses while speaking in London on media coverage of Africa. Uhuru pointed out that the media had created a negative perception of Africa by only focusing on negativity in Africa.
"We have a perception problem and unfortunately created by the media, every single day it is the negative aspects of Africa that are brought out there" Uhuru stated as shown in a video shared by Daily Nation.
"Sometimes you know you watch the news, which I stopped watching..." President Uhuru added.
According to the president, there were also cases of misreporting which had painted the wrong image of Kenya.
He gave an example of how international media would do negative stories on African countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia , Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan among others and then conclude with a story from Nairobi hence drawing more attention on Kenya.
"So everybody now the thing that sticks in their mind is Nairobi, Kenya is where there is hunger and starvation," he noted.
According to President Uhuru, such techniques of reporting had branded a wrong impression of not just Kenya but also entire Africa as a continent.
