Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali has defended the governing Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga over claims that the former Harambee Stars forward has poor communication skills.
Speaking in a panel discussion on NTV on Monday, the first time MP said that Mariga had just made his foray into the political and would learn the art of politrical communication with time.
The investigative journalist turned politician revealed that he himself was not a good political communicator when he joined politics; he gained the confidence to communicate to people with time.
"Mariga's inability to articulate himself should not be a big issue because an infant does not start eating chapatis when they are born. A child is born, takes milk, starts crawling before eating (Mariga kutojua kuzungumza lisile swal kubwa kwa sababu mtoto hazaliwi akala chapati. Mtoto anazaliwa, ananyonya, anatambaa, anaanza kula), " the Nyali MP said. (15:01-15:11)
Mariga has come under blistering criticism over his apparent inability to express himself confidently and with clarity to the public.
His critics have lurched on to his press conferences in which he has been seen, by and large, to leave members of his campaign team to speak on his behalf.
Former Kakamega senator and Langata member of parliament Nixon Korir have been doing much of the talking for him.
