The media has a critical role to play in ensuring the ongoing voter registration exercise attains its goals in Nakuru County.
According to Central Rift IEBC regional coordinator, David Towett, the media will play an important role in ensuring as many people as possible are registered as voters.
Towett said the media has what it takes to make the exercise a success or sabotage it.
Speaking during a media workshop organised Towett by the IEBC, Towett said journalists from all media houses in Nakuru should focus on convincing the masses to register as voters through their radio shows and even newspapers.
“IEBC depends on the media at this time because it is you people that will get people to come to the registration centers and register as voters,” he said.
He added; “Kenyans believe the media so much and when it tells them to do something, they will follow and do it but when the media speaks badly about something, the public will believe what is being said.”
The coordinator said he will partner with the media in educating Nakuru residents on why they should register as voters before the next elections.
“I think if we an work with the media then we can achieve our target of registering 260,000 people in Nakuru county and I can assure you that am ready to work with you,” he said.
