Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Mibey said that they are determined to reach 10 percent forest cover before 2030.

"We will be planting one million tree seedlings at Kaptagat Forest as a means of conserving water catchment areas. The exercise will start in March during the long rains season and we call upon people of good will to assist us," he said.

He added that they will ensure that Uasin Gishu is leading in conserving the environment.

"I call upon Uasin Gishu residents to at least use two per cent of their land to plants trees, since trees play a vital role in environment conservation," he said.

He said they will work with the county government to ensure that the 10 per cent forest cover is achieved.

"I give a warning to those individuals cutting trees that they will be arrested and prosecuted, we cannot allow someone to cut trees while we are mobilising people to plant more. Anyone cutting trees should have a permit from our offices," he said.
