After Nyamira County government bought mattress, blankets, slippers and bed sheets for Nyasabakwa students whose dormitory was destroyed by fire, residents have raised alarm over alleged graft.
A resident, who asked for anonymity complained of the high rates at which the said goods were bought, adding that the county was taking them for a ride.
"How can the county steal our money while we are we're watching, buying 120 mattresses,120 slippers,120 boxes,120 blankets and 240 bed sheets can't cost Sh700,000 but around Sh400,000," he said.
He also added that the county government officials have been misusing county revenues, and always jumps at such incidents in order to steal from locals.
"County officials have grown fond of milking us by getting excited when an incident occurs in our county while we the tax payers are suffering," he added.
"This county is full of greedy hyenas who get excited when they see a tragedy in the county and calculate how to pocket county funds, it is a sad situation," added another resident.
