Uasin Gishu Finance CeC Julius Ruto now wants the National Treasury to increase the amount of money allocated to the county government.
Ruto said the current amount of Sh6.3 billion allocated to the county is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of work that is supposed to be done.
“The money is not enough since it can not be able to finance the expectations of residents. Without funding we find it a challenge to give services to our people,” said the Finance CeC.
Ruto made the remarks while addressing journalists in Eldoret town on Thursday.
He further said that services which have been devolved but are still under the national government should be fully devolved so that more funds are channeled to counties.
“Services such as water and agriculture are devolved but sadly the national government is still conducting them and being given a lot of money which should be given to counties. Services should not be duplicated by county and national governments,” said Ruto.
Ruto further called on the Treasury to be releasing county funds on time, arguing that failure to do so cripples government functions such as health, salaries and even supervision of projects at the grassroots.
