Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has been the latest politician to oppose any attempts to amend the referendum with an aim of expanding the government.
This comes amid a push by forces allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for changes to introduce more executive positions in government.
But in a tweet Saturday Saturday, the first time lawmaker said that he will mobilize fellow politicians to shoot down the attempts expected to come under the guise of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
"As leaders, let's endeavour to improve the lives of our people by all means. I will lobby my fellow legislators and other stakeholders,to thwart any efforts to amend the constitution to create more positions in the executive arm of government at the expense of poor Kenyans," he said.
The remarks from Barasa, an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, echo those of his colleagues sarrounding the DP who have also poured cold water on the same.
Apart from Raila ans his allies who have been openly drumming support for the proposed changes, President Uhuru Kenyatta has also repeatedly endorsed the amendments.
It also seeks to reintroduce the parliamentary governance system from the current presidential one.
