The Kenyan Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans especially those living along or near the coast to be on the lookout for strong southerly winds as well as large waves that will hit the area next week starting from Sunday 21st.

On a post shared on their Facebook account, the weatherman stated, the strong winds of 25 m/s and high waves of more than 3 meters are projected to continue to Tuesday, July 23. 

The strong winds are likely to reduce to 20 m/s on  July 24. While the wave heights may reduce to 2 meters the same day.

They reported that the strong winds can blow away roofs, cause structural damages and also uproot trees. The large waves can capsize the boats and risk the safety of those who will be engaging in recreational activities along the coast or in water sports.

The counties mostly to be affected are; Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta which could be more affected, Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Garissa and Kitui will also experience the same while Makueni, Machakos, Southern Kajiado and Tana River have been urged to be on the lookout.

However, the met has asked citizens to be in touch with media houses for updates if the conditions change significantly where advisories will be made as they follow up on the progress of the weather event.
